Why a new Corbynite party is not the answer – with or without Corbyn.

While small groups of communists are seeking ways to forge greater unity and create the basis for a new, mass, democratic communist party, an array of former Labour Party prominent left-wing figures & activists are looking to create a new leftish, reformist, social democratic party in the image of Jeremy Corbyn’s 2017 & 2019 manifestos.

Such is the aim of Collective.

We believe that this is inadequate. And it is a mistake for those who want to see the end of capitalism to put any faith in it. Such a party will not argue for the necessary fundamental break with capitalism, but will rather present a programme to manage it.

Such a programme cannot solve the problems facing the British & international working class, which are all the product of the profit system.

How do we build support for the ideas of genuine socialism, or communism as we call it? How do we win the argument inside the working class and its labour movement for genuine, democratic, communist ideas.

This won’t be done by forming a new reformist party, which simply regurgitates the weak, mildly reformist programme of Jeremy Corbyn, with or without his involvement. Any electoral success achieved on such a programme will be building on sand.

We need firmer foundations to build on.

We need to make socialist ideas popular, not become popular by watering them down.
