The mess at the top of YourParty continues without any explanation or real solutions from those in charge.
Jeremy Corbyn makes a glib apology for the “confusion” but the membership are kept in the dark.
A new membership portal has been opened and Sultana says she has joined. Those 20,000 who ‘joined’ through the portal she had previously set up will be ‘migrated’ to the new one.
But there is still no authoritative explanation about what on earth has been going on. The members are not trusted. There is no information about who is involved beyond Corbyn and Sultana. And it’s still not at all clear if they are working together, or how.
Who else is involved? What are their responsibilities? How are decisions made? Who makes them?
How is the money paid so far being used?
The whole approach in forming this party has been farcical. It reeks of political incompetence.
It reflects the politics behind it, which is primarily to summon an army of leafleters and canvassers for the MPs and wannabe MPs.
We can still make YourParty work.
But it will take determined and well organised action from the putative membership to wrest control of the party. It needs to be made thoroughly democratic and socialist.
Neither seems to be on the agenda from the top at the moment.
The conference will be a two day rally. We need more than Ra! Ra! rallies. We need serious discussion and debate about the sort of party we want. We need accountability and transparency. We need a clear anti-capitalist and socialist programme.
