New series of TAS… Zoom discussionsMake sure you use the new link A new series of our fortnightly Zoom discussions starts this coming Monday 15 September 2025, after a short break. All meetings begin at 7:30pm and end at 9pm. The new series focuses on questions of socialist policy and democracy that arise in respect of the new YourParty that has been initiated in the UK by former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and former Labour Party MP Zarah Sultana. What sort of party should it be? We argue that it must be a clearly socialist party. How can we make sure it is democratic? What do we mean by “socialist”? What do we mean by “democratic”? We will be discussing these questions over the next eight fortnightly Mondays, ending on 22 December. The overarching theme will be “Why we need a party that aims to abolish capitalism, not to manage it”. Some are arguing that the Jeremy Corbyn manifestos of 2017 and 2019 should be the basis for the new party’s programme. We reject that. We argue that those manifestos are wholly inadequate. We need a fundamental systemic change. So what should be in the party programme? What do you think? Come along and share your point of view. Monday 15 September: Nick Wrack kicks off the series with arguments for a fundamental break with capitalism as the only solution to the crises of capitalism. What does that mean for the programme and the way that the party organises? Monday 29 September: What sort of public ownership do we need? How much, how wide and how would it be run? Monday 13 October: What do we do about the state – suppressing dissent, increasing authoritarianism, the monarchy, the House of Lords, the police, army, secret services etc? What about elections and representation? What should we argue for? Monday 27 October: What about foreign policy? How do we implement the internationalism that is essential for socialism to succeed? Ukraine? Israel-Palestine? NATO? What do we do about the arms industry? Nuclear weapons? Monday 10 November: How do we stop climate catastrophe? Monday 24 November: What should we say about refugees, immigration and international solidarity. Monday 8 December: Capitalismm and inequality: Housing, health, education, social care etc – how would we do it differently? Monday 22 December: Drawing the strands of the previous discussions together. Depending on events with regards to YourParty we may include a session on developments to discuss issues that arise.
